# What is the difference between a waiting period and a vesting period?

The **waiting period** is a waiting period directly after the start of your insurance, during which you cannot yet use some insurance benefits.

The **vesting period** means that we do not offer benefits for illnesses or treatments that were diagnosed or treated for the first time in the three months before the start of your insurance.
